Karina is a rising third-year Political Economy major with a Chinese minor. Her heart for public service first began when she had the opportunity to sit on her school district's Board of Education and has only grown since. Inspired by this experience, her interest lies in education policy reform and the inclusion of mental wellness training and programs as a means of making education more accessible. Her passion has led her to invest in many communities, from interning on Capitol Hill for a Congressman near her hometown to running and becoming a Senator-elect in UC Berkeley's Associated Students of the University of California. Karina hopes that this summer will provide another layer of perspective on our nation's political systems and is excited to be a fellow with the Matsui Center.
