The IGS library collection contains over 400,000 catalogued items and 1,200 active serial titles. While some reference materials and journals are on open shelves in the Reading Room, the bulk of the collection is in closed stacks and must be paged.
Records for items cataloged since 1983 can be found in Oskicat and Melvyl. For help deciding which catalog to use, see Guide to Library Catalogs.
To have material paged, fill out call slips in the Reading Room and take them to the Information Desk. Paging is available 11 am - 5 pm, M-F.
The collection is non-circulating. Patrons needing material over several days may have it held at the Information Desk. A photocopy machine is available that accepts bills, coins, and campus copy cards.
The Library Code of Conduct details standards for Library use
intended to create a safe and pleasant research environment for all
Library patrons.
Most materials acquired by the library prior to 1983 are not accessible via online catalogs. Users wishing to search these materials should ask library staff for assistance. Tools for discovering pre-1983 records include a printed subject catalog (1918-77), a subject card catalog (1978-83), and an author card catalog (1918-83).
UC-eLinks provides a way to move from an article or book citation to the full online content of the item, or, for print materials, to find a UC library location of the item (or request that a copy of the article be loaned or sent to you).
